Outer Echo is a deep-tech audio startup focused on the simulation of sound and acoustic phenomena for immersive and interactive applications.

We develop technologies that model how sound behaves in space—how it propagates, interacts with environments, and evolves as listeners, sources, and obstacles move and rotate.

Physical Modeling
At the core of our work is a strong emphasis on efficient physical modeling. We design algorithms that simulate wave phenomena, resonant structures, sound radiation, acoustic coupling, and spatial interactions with a level of flexibility and sonic fidelity that would traditionally be considered impractical for real-time use.
Through careful numerical design and stability analysis, perceptual optimization, and efficient implementation, we turn complex acoustic physical models into robust, low-latency spatial audio technologies suitable for rapid, iterative production environments.
Spatial Audio
At Outer Echo we specialize in immersive audio technologies that move beyond brute-force numerical simulations and static, impulse-like representations of space. Instead, we develop proprietary Physically-Modeled 6D Spatial Audio technology whereby real-time, interactive 6DOF simulation of complex acoustic environments flexibly integrates perceptual realism, physical consistency, efficiency, and low latency into a single framework.
Our 6D Spatial Audio technology relies on building a large-scale physical model of an acoustic scene defined from first principles, leading to navigable, run-time editable virtual acoustic spaces where acoustic coupling and sound propagation manifest naturally.


Technology Output
AURORA Spatial is our physically-modeled 6D spatial audio rendering engine for real-time acoustic simulation of dynamic immersive environments, leveraging
proprietary and patented technologies to achieve unheard levels of efficiency and flexibility.
LIVING SKY is our venture with MNTRA and GPU Audio, a pioneering spatial reverb processor featuring 15 concurrent, dynamically modulated spaces, 5th-order Ambisonics, and 520 simultaneous channels of GPU-powered convolution. All of this with negligible CPU usage.
Outer Echo is based in Montréal and collaborates with partners at the intersection of audio technology, immersive media, and interactive systems.
